Our spines are sinuous, sharing structural elements with all other vertebrates that originated with our common evolutionary ancestor, the fish. Learning to deconstruct stories that separate us from other life forms and reinhabit the full functional movement potential of our own spines is a revolutionary act.

In this introduction to somatic awareness, we’ll slip beneath the surface of ourselves and learn to play with sensation and perception. You’ll get a taste of how the stories we tell ourselves impact our ability to experience and accurately interpret sensory information, engage in group learning and sharing, and spend plenty of time on a cushy mat on the floor getting to know the subtle movements of your spine. Dress in layers and bring water and an extra blanket if you have one. We’ll be focused on practice rather than teaching, but you’re welcome to bring a notebook if you’d like to reflect on your experience afterwards.

No previous experience is necessary and movements can be adapted for all bodies.
