Spleen: Coming Home
It isn’t just in your head. Bodies hold emotions, past experiences, and influence your perspective on the world. Thousands of years ago, people began to recognize the relationship between organs and emotional states, and developed practices to help balance these internal forces.
The Spleen nourishes us. Understood in Chinese medicine as an organ complex incorporating Spleen, Pancreas, and the closely related Stomach, this important triad governs digestion and our ability to hold on to what we need. You may be familiar with a pervasive feeling that things are constantly slipping away: money, time, relationships, opportunities. Many spiritual traditions also emphasize the need for letting go. There is a season for release, this is true. There is also a season for storing up, for stocking the pantry, for feeling full. Heading into late Summer, the brilliance of Spleen time is this opportunity for gathering, abundance, and satisfaction. Cultivating a sense of wholeness and completion, you can better discern what to give away.
In order to store anything, you first need a container where it can be held. In this class we’ll focus on building a safe container for ourselves to experience nourishment. In the midst of all our societal fragmentation, supporting a functional Spleen requires putting the pieces of ourselves together into a more coherent whole. Fortunately for us, this wholeness is endlessly available through cultivating deeper connection to the earth beneath our feet and our body’s inherent capacity to heal. You can participate through the generous act of taking time and space for yourself to rest, digest, and come home to center. Getting here is the hard part. Arriving is simple.
Join us for the mid-Summer installment of our Organ Support Series. We’ll practice tending the digestive organs through Qi Gong and somatic exploration. No experience necessary. All are welcome to attend.
